Counterfeit money

The Namibian Police Force has encounter recent cases of counterfeit money with being circulated, specifically in Omusati and Otjozondjupa Regions, respectively. To this end, seven (07) suspects (age 27 and 35 years) were arrested between the periods of 15 September 2015 and 04 October 2015 on charges of Contravention of Counterfeit Money.

The most common counterfeit money being circulated is two hundred dollar notes and more notes are expected to be in circulation, countrywide.


The Namibian Police Force would like to warn and encourage the public and the business community specifically to diligently examine the money you receive, especially larger denomination for authenticity. The community is encouraged to thoroughly inspect the notes as soon as the money is received, compare the suspicious note with a genuine note while paying attention to the quality of the printing and paper characteristics.


Should there be further suspicions, the community is urged to report and share information on counterfeit money to the nearest police station or to contact Detective Inspector Boois or Detective Inspector Awarab at the Commercial Crime Investigation Division in Windhoek on 2093274 / 2093293.
