THE ELEVEN COMMANDMENTS OF FIREARM SAFETY 1. Be muzzel-conscious - point firearms only at your target - never point your gun at something you do not intend to shoot. 2. Check the barrel and action for obstructions carefully and always keep your firearm clean. 3. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded and cocked. Never leave a loaded firearm unattended and never pick up someone eise's firearm, unless you have permission and always carry out the safety drill. 4. Store weapons unloaded, and in a gun safe. Keep ammunition and firearms separately, out of reach of children. 5. Firearms are for serious use, not for playing games. 6. Know and use only the correct, clean and dry ammunition for your particular firearm. Do not attempt to carry out modifications yourself, go to your local firearm dealer for advice. 7. Ricochets can be dangerous, do not shoot at hard, flat surfaces. 8. Think clearly before pulling a trigger make sure of your target and also what is behind your target. Know where your bullet is going. 9. Teach your family the proper use of firearms. Knowledge breeds respect. 10. Make safety a habit - you can't recall a speeding bullet. Never climb a tree or climb through a fence or get into a motor vehicle with a loaded firearm, always carry out your safety drills. 11.Never drink and shoot. The two do not mix. Alcohol affects your judgement.
