The Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College as the only institution of advanced police training in the country. The objectives of the Police College are to provide basic training to police students, advance training, in-service training and on the job training to members and officers of the Force and also to render training assistance to other government Departments and institutions. It has broadened its scope of training to equip of particular importance investigators with legal knowledge in order for these people to carry out their respective duties with confidence. |

Career Guidance: Nampol 1.Introduction: As an organisation established under Article 115 of the Constitution by the Act of Parliament we are constitutionally mandated to serve the nation. We are therefore, guided by the Police Act and the regulations made thereunder to carry out our functions. It is a service oriented organization and therefore it requires the service of good, intelligent and educated persons to run it's service. 2.The rank structure and chain of Command of Nampol 2.1.The Inspector General : He is the overall command of the Namibian Police. He is appointed by the President in terms of Article 32(4)(C) 2.2.Deputy Inspector General 2.3.Commissioner 2.4.Deputy Commissioner 2.5.Chief Inspector 2.6.Inspector 2.7.Warrant Officer 2.8.Sergeant 2.9.Constable 2.10.Student-Constable The functions of the Namibian Police 1.Preserve the internal security of Namibia; 2.Maintain Law and Order; 3.Investigate any offence or alleged offence; 4.Prevention of Crimes; and 5.Protection of life and property; Recruitment and Appointments The Inspector General of the Namibian Police shall appoint persons who are fit and qualified to be members of the force, based on the following requirements:- -The person must be a Namibian citizen. -The person must be at least 18 year of age and not older than twenty five (25) years, unless he/she is in possession of a relevant Diploma or degree which delayed his/her application for appointment. -The person must furnish proof of good character (e.g. loyalty and honesty). -The person must submit herself/himself to a medical examination. -The person must allow his/her fingerprints to be taken - to determine whether he/she is having any criminal records. -The person must be in possession of at least Grade 10 Certificate, although Grade 12 is preferred. -The person must sit for an examination or undergo such educational or aptitude tests as may be prescribed by the Inspector General. -The person must furnish two testimonials from different people. -The person must be prepared to take the declaration of office referred to in Police Regulation 5 - Schedule "A". 2.The following procedures will be followed during General recruitment: -The recruitment division in conjunction with the Public Relation and Liaison Division will announce the recruitment Information through the Media. -Information may also be obtained at the nearest Police Station. -All the interested persons who meet the requirements shall then be registered and thereafter will sit for:- (a)Aptitude Tests; (b)Interview; (c)Physical Test; (d)blood test/Medical check-up (T.B.,High blood pressure etc) (e)Finally scrutinizing criminal records. -All persons who are physically and mentally fit and who are appointed by the Recruitment Board/Panel will then be send to I.P.I.P.C. for Basic Police Training. -After successfully completing Basic Training at I.P.I.P.C.all persons shall then be posted at different regions and thereafter deployed at various stations and Units. -For the first 12 months all newly appointed persons are on probation. 3.The following courses are offered at I.P.I.P.C. 1.Basic Police Training - 6 months 2.Basic Criminal Investigation 4 - months 3.Investigation Course-(Commissioned Officers) 4 weeks 4.Serious Crime Unit course - 4 weeks 5.Advanced Criminal Investigation Course - 8 weeks 6.Commercial Unit Course - 1 week 7.Protected Resources Unit Course - 1 week 8.Drug Law Enforcement Course - 1 week 9.Stock Theft Investigation Course - 4 weeks 10.Special Branch Course - 1 week 11.Vehicle Clearance Certificate course - 1 week 12.Basic Drivers Course - 4 weeks 13.Advanced Driving Course - 2 weeks 14.Motorcycle course -4 weeks 15.Regular Radio User - 6 weeks 16.Advanced Signal Unit Course - 3 months 17.Basic Logistic Course - 2 weeks 18.Advanced Logistics course - 3 weeks 19.Adult Education writers - workshop - 2 weeks 20.Adult Literacy Promoters course - 2 weeks 21.Supervisors Course - 3 weeks 22.Supervisors Course (Constables) - 3 weeks 23.Unit Commanders Course - 4 weeks 24.Staff Officers Course - 5 weeks 25.Station Commanders Course - 5 weeks 26.Instructors Course - 4 weeks 27.Trial Officer Course - 4 weeks 28.Traffic Officers Course - 3 months 29.Advanced shooting course - 1 week 30.V.I.P.Body Guard Course - 4 weeks 31.Funeral Procession Drill Course - 1 week -Various departments, branches and Units within the Namibian Police. The Nampol is divided into various Units for different function/purposes. 4.Specialized Units -Crime Investigation Unit -Drug Law Enforcement Unit -Motor vehicle Theft Unit -Commercial Crime Investigation Unit -Protected Resources Unit -Serious Crime Unit -Special Branch -Women and Child Protection Unit -Scene of Crime Unit -Criminal Record Centre/Fingerprint Unit -Dog Unit -Interpol (Criminal Intelligence Bulletin) -Stock Theft Unit -Explosive Unit 5.Uniform Branch -Charge office Personnel -Administration: Regional Commander and Staff Officers on the Regional Level: Station Commander and all administrative officers at the station. -Traffic Department : It needs also three months course to be attended, strictly. 5.1.Other Divisions: 5.1.1.Special Field Force : This Division is involved in Protecting off all Borders throughout Namibia as well as Crime Prevention in General. 5.1.2.Special Reserve Field Force: They are mostly concentrating on Public order, strikes, special operations (e.t.c.). They are also involved in Crime Prevention in General. 5.1.3.V.I.P. Division This divisions main aim is to protect all V.I.P.'s throughout the country as well as to protect all Government Buildings and Property. They are also involved in Crime Preventions in General. 6.Service Requirements -The member must be prepared to serve anywhere in Namibia. -Appointment is on a 24 hours basis without any overtime. -No Political involvement. -The member may not be affiliated to any Trade Union. -The member must serve the nation to the best of his ability and in particular faithfully and impartially./unbiased. -The member must defend and uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia. -He/she must abide by the provision of the Police Act, 1990 (Act 19 of 1990 as amended. 7.Benefits 4.1.Pension 4.2.Medical aid Scheme 4.3.Social Security Commission Benefits 4.4.Housing Scheme 8.Promotions Two terms of Promotions 5.1.Service Promotions 5.2.Academic Promotions (but not a must) 9.Additional Privileges Privileges may also be given to members with academic qualifications such as diplomas and degrees for salary adjustments, allowances and/or promotions. The members are advised to undertake the Educational Studies with the recognized institutions like Polytechnic of Namibia, Unam and or Unisa (Law Related subjects).
