Year End Message by IGP to members of the Force Year End Message by IGP to members of the Force

It gives me hope and encouragement, as the Inspector-General of the Namibian Police Force, to have this opportune time to address you on this occasion.

I am extremely glad to stand here before a contingent of dedicated officers who have withstood the test of time and devoted their efforts to the best of their ability in the fight against crime in our beloved country, “Land of the Brave,” in 2017.

Director of Ceremonies,

The Namibian Police Force has come of age and withstood many challenges as we strive to fulfill our constitutional obligations each year. In spite of the enormous challenges, the Namibian Police Force has grown from strength to strength, and I safely stand before you and confirm that during the twenty-seven years of our existence, we have become one of the competitive police organisations, not only in the region but also worldwide, in terms of our operational and professional capabilities.

Director of Ceremonies,

Ladies and gentlemen

Twenty-seven years of our existence has witnessed the Namibian Police Force growing from a Force of officers who emerged from different sides of the political divide into a formidable and professional organisation. At its establishment in 1990, the Force had about 800 members and today, we are talking of more than 14 thousand members of the Force who are proficient in various specialties.

We have developed from a police organisation that was seen and perceived as a repressive tool, established solely to protect the interests of a few, into a community and service oriented organisation. Various policing strategies such as the philosophy of community policing, the new N-ABIS fingerprint system, E-Policing, to mention but a few have been devised, aimed at forging closer cooperation with the community in the fight against crime.

It gives me hope and encouragement, as the Inspector-General of the Namibian Police Force, to have this opportune time to address you on this occasion.
