The Namibian Police was established by Act of Parliament and is falling under the Ministry of Safety and Security; in addition to the Inspector General the Namibian Police force consist of other officers and non-officers appointed under the Police Act as members off the Namibian Police and includes except for the purpose of any provision of the Police Act any member of the reserve force while serving in the force and any temporary and auxiliary members.
A person who was member of the South West African Police immediately before the commencement of the Police Act shall with due recognition of his her previous period of service as a member of the South West African Police.
In accordance with the Police Act the functions of the Namibian Police force is outline below:
· Preservation of the internal security of Namibia
· The maintenance of law and order
· The investigation of any offence or alleged offence
· The prevention of Crime and the protection of life and property
